Thought Provoking Thursday

Social media plays a prominent role in my life. As a 21-year-old, social media holds various benefits to me. Social media is an outlet for networking professionally, sharing photos, posting random thoughts, and communicating with friends. I generally find myself using it as an escape from reality, whether that is when I am bored, putting off work, or heading to bed. Like I mentioned in Entry 1, my Instagram (and just about everyone else's) is a highlight reel. I will put out photos that make it seem like my life is put together with sunshine and rainbows. As hard as it is to admit, I do post with the thoughts lurking in my mind if my "followers" would like this or is it "cute enough" to post. Writing this entry and participating in this blackout encourages me to be my authentic self and use my platform to show others they do not need to follow what society depicts in our minds. Teachable Thursday

No one tells you the effects social media has on you. The addictiveness it enacts, the unrealistic expectations it portrays, and the urge to be someone who you are not. Though this may not be the case for all, it is commonly seen in teenagers and young adults in today's society. As a college student, social media is found in a multitude of areas throughout my life. It is used to network professionally, stay in touch with friends and family far away, relay information for organizations, the list could go on and on. Though there are many benefits to social media and its usage, there are also a vast amount of cons that come from partaking in social media. Through the first-hand experience of fasting social media, I will use my research to see if the cons of social media outweigh the benefits.  After carefully looking at my social media profiles (Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat), I have concluded that they display only the highlight reels of my life.
